I am President of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), a not-for- profit partnership of public and private organizations that promote the use of technology in transportation to save lives, time and money and improve the quality of life. The US Department of Transportation uses us as a chartered advisory committee to provide advice on the development and deployment of advanced technologies.

Talking Signs, Inc.^® was recognized by ITS America at our annual meeting last week and given our award for the ITS technology that has the greatest potential to improve the quality of life for transportation users. The award was for their work in developing and deploying infrared remote signs in various ways to help blind travelers access transit systems. Members of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America voted to recognize what an advance this technology can be for blind, low visioned and print handicapped people. The company has brought together major companies, governmental agencies at all levels and the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in its expanding effort to make infrared remote signs available to users worldwide.
